I am so beyond excited and happy to share this with everyone. I got the opportunity of designing a pattern for Furls Crochet Blog Hop 2021, but as CAL, for the month of December. It made me super proud and happy.

Since, I have decided to design more geared toward Men, this was literally the perfect fitting on top of the pie. As, they were looking for patterns for Men as well and this sweater popped right in my mind. I gave my description and they took it. I wanted a design that was a sweater and blanket mixed into ONE, but would provide you with all the anticipating COZY and COMFY. Also, would be the perfect snuggle partner to have, while you are watching your favorite movies or taking the day to lounge with your crochet or knit in hands. But, it’s also a perfect companion to have on while sipping your first cup of awesomeness or out on your next adventure.

This Design I wanted to pick a yarn that brought on the warmth and would keep you cozy, by providing that much needed comfy. That also a littler more heavier than a DK (3) Weight, Worsted (4) Weight Acrylic was my choice, making a good choice. For this, I used Red Heart Yarn Super Saver in Grey Heather and White, more geared for the neutral take on colors (all colors are a total wonderful option). You can also use any type of worsted (4) weight, as it’s in the same category. Foxy Loxy Pompom, Free Crochet Pattern, MM_Crochet17

Here lately, I have been seeing the love with this fur yarn from Lion Brand Yarn and beauty behind it. My heart melted and screamed in joy. Possibilities and designs started pouring in my head, with what I could make with this yarn. Just only one stuck, a full on crocheted PomPom to add to so many projects or making a fur ornament for decoration. Keep reading for the free pattern.

Foxy Loxy Pompom in Baked Alaskan

When, I was trying to figure out how to do a pompom with this yarn, I came by Left In Knots fur crocheted PomPom, but I just couldn’t get it to work out for the life of me. It was like my brain was out of order at this time. Then, recently shortly after, I noticed that Crazy4crochetmama had come up with a pompom out of Red Heart Yarns Hygge, such a beautiful crocheted PomPom (that I need to try out, as well), which both were my inspiration for this pompom. Plus, even Bhooked inspired these with her podcast explaining on how to use this yarn. Which got me to thinking, I want to create something special to be used with this yarn.

Chinchilla, Blonde Elk and Baked Alaskan Foxy Loxy Pompom

I love faux fur, as it is super soft and has a very luxurious touch to it, that had me dreaming to make a pompom that would resemble the same effect to it. This design just kept dancing inside the front of my brain, letting nothing else come forth until I produce this item.

Then, one night sitting on the couch, I grabbed this beautiful yarn out of stash and my big Boye size N/19 (10.00mm) Hook, started creating this design, the best idea I had, from the depths of my creativeness.

Chinchilla Faux Fur Yarn

This project resembles a squared piece of fur fabric. As it is the same soft touch, that all you want to do is keep petting it, like you would your dog. After, you have finished getting to your last measurement, FO and you don’t have to weave in your ends, then you begin cinching it up like you would a faux fur fabric and then stuff her up to get the same roundness as all those faux fur pompom’s on the market, but the greatest touch and best secret, is that is all crocheted up. That is the goal that I was looking for, once I started creating this joy. Plus, this yarn will not disappoint you in anyway, it will have you wanting more.

Baked Alaskan Foxy Loxy Pompom

This yarn can be found at Lion Brand Yarn in many different shades: black panther, grey wolf, pink poodle, blue bengal, blonde elk, violet sterling, baked alaska, chinchilla, mink, Pomeranian, and bear. I have yet to try them all, but I can’t wait and the colors are to die for. The next color I am making these in are pink poodle and blue bengal, as these two are a gorgeous luxurious look. Gauge

Not a crucial step, as I use measurements for this type of pattern.

Measurements

6.5″x6.5″ for the type of square you making for your Pompom.

Materials

Hook: Boye N/19 (10.00mm)

Yarn: Lion Brand Yarn Go For Faux

Tape Measure

Scissors

Stitch Marker (optional)

Polyfill (~handful or a little more to get shape desired)

Long piece of any color worsted weight yarn (for cinching)

Darning Needle for sewing up the sides

Additional Notes

This pattern is written in US terminology.

When using this yarn, I suggest you be in a well lit area to see your stitches, as it’s hard to see them or you will have to feel for them, as it’s in the category #6 super bulky.

This pattern is worked in rows, chaining 1 and turning, before starting next row.

Ch1’s don’t count a stitch.

You don’t need to weave in your ends, as you will stuff them inside your pompom, before cinching up.

After, you are finished cinching up, pull tight, tie several knots to keep in place, then take one of the two strands and add your needle, poke needle across from where you are and pull through, tie several more knots and you’re done.

You will also notice that you can’t deal which row you are, I suggest you grab your tape measure and measure. until you get to 6.5″ and then carry onto finishing up your pompom.

Abbreviations/Stitches Used

Ch: chain.

SC: single crochet.

R: row.

FO: fasten off.

ST: stitches.

H: hook.

Now, Let’s begin making your Pompom!!

To start, grab your N H and ch13.

R1: in the second ch from h sc, and sc in the next eleven ch’s. Ch1 and turn. (12st’s)

R2-12: sc in same st and next 11 st’s. Ch1 and turn. (12st’s)

Once your piece measures 6.5″ long and 6.5″ wide, FO and don’t weave in your ends, as they are easily to be stuffed inside your pompom when cinching.

Now, it’s time to be cinched up.

Grab a long piece of any color of your choice, of worsted weight yarn. Place your farming needle on your strand of yarn. Poke your yarn through the last stitch before FO’ing off, then continue around until you get to where you started, both tails should be facing on the same side. Un-string your needle and then begin pulling tight, before you close the pompom all the way closed, take your filling and stuff your pompom, continue to stuff until you have your desired look. Once, you’re done stuffing, pull on your two strings to have a tight hole, then begin tying several knots to secure it. Then begin stringing one of the two strands with your needle, then poke your needle across or diagonally from your knots, pull strand through, release needle from strand and tie several knots to secure. Cut your strings to desired length and now you can attach to your next project or tie knots to leave as an ornament for decorating for the seasons.

Strike Threw Snowcapped Earwarmer/Cowl/Beanie, Free Crohet Pattern, MM_Crochet17

When you think that something wouldn’t work, but after many tries, the envision finally took place. I just wasn’t going to give up on this, not at all. Many rip it’s and rip it’s ran through this yarn. It’s just like life, when something doesn’t work and you think you have failed yourself, never give up, because trust me it’s there. Put it aside for the time being and pick it back up the day after. Trust me it will work.

If you know me the one things I am a sucker for are super chunky yarn, big hooks, and puffed stitches. They bring out the joy and happiness in my life. It makes me drool and wanting more. This yarn from Lion Brand Yarn in Hometown USA, was the perfect fit for this design and I couldn’t resist it, but you can use any super bulky #6 yarn that you have been eying. Plus, when I found my N hook from Boye Yarn Crafts my heart was in love at first sight. These two pairings are a dream come true. They make items that are super comfy, warm and squishy items, that just make my world a happy place.

I like big hooks and can’t lie. I like big yarn and I can’t lie. I like big puffy stitches and I can’t lie. These three sentences are all that go through my head, when I get to pick them up and work with them. It just makes me chuckle, while my husband just gives me a weird look each and every time. I look back and say, “What?” He tells, “I just love seeing you this happy with whatever you do.”

If you love super fast projects that work up quick, then you are going to enjoy making this. I wanted to incorporate stitches that were simple and easy to work. The single crochet is my best friend, as you can see it’s just a dream to work, as there isn’t much required knowledge. I then decided to add a little texture, by going into the back loop in the next two rows, to give the effect of a strike through. Which, gave its name.

When it came time doing my puff stitches, I wanted a little twist. Instead of doing the traditional puff with a ch1 to close it, I don’t close the stitch, as it groups each together. It just makes it easier for you to go into the stitch, plus gave it a more definite texture that speaks to me. Always love taking a twist and spin just to play on the textures.

One more thing to add before we get to the deets, this free crochet pattern comes as three patterns in one. Who doesn’t like that? I love it so much when this happens.

If you aren’t comfortable with doing the SCFCH, you are more than welcome to ch36, join ch to the first ch (making sure you have no twist), ch1 and sc in same stitch and repeat across. Join to first stitch and carry on with r2 of the pattern.

Here you may FO and weave in ends to leave it as a cowl, or you may carry onto the last instruction to make the beanie.

For making the Beanie, FO and leave a long tail for cinching the top closed. Now, grab your large eyed needle and thread it with the long tail still attached to your hat. You will be weaving your needle in and out every other front loop, when you get to the beginning, pull your yarn tight closing the top of your beanie. Tie a knot to secure it and weave in your ends. Here you may attach any kind of pompom you would like or you can leave it as is.

Sabi Star Flower Appliqué, Free Crochet Pattern, By MM_Crochet17

Today, as the warmer weather is starting to sprout through the woodwork, thought, how cool it would be design a different type of flower. It’s the season, for the things that we have forgotten through the winter, to bring back the many different colors Mother Nature keeps blessing us with. This little Star Flower appliqué would be a great fit on a scarf, summer dress, spring/summer cardigan, or just to have to take photos with.

Double Cross Shawl, Free Crochet Pattern, By MM_Crochet17

After, seeing so many inspiring shawls and different patterns coming alive, I just knew it was time to take the plunge. My heart understood that this wasn’t going to be easy, just knew I needed to do this. Sometimes we can’t change the path we are destined for. Personally, I believe this was my path to embark.

Intimidation’s, frustration’s, give ups and put downs I was feeding myself all day, something told myself to fight the power. Put the bugger away and start again. These were the things I knew I needed to do, but it was hard to break the heartache. The pain was hard to fight and pull it off, but nothing changed. Our instincts show us where the footprints in life are to be placed. What we think that maybe impossible is the possible. These were the things that kept racing throughout my mind.

As, three days passed, I decided it was time for my hands to pick it back up and finish what I started. People in my life have always told me, I never finish what I start. Now, this was my time to prove I can do this. This was my win-win for myself, to make me feel proud and accomplished, plus it becomes one of many life-changing experiences I needed.

Popcorn Stitch– to begin, start by yo, insert into indicated stitch, yo, pull a loop, yo, pull through first 2loops, yo, pull through last 2 loops on hook, first dc completed, you will repeat 4x all in the same stitch, to have a total of 5dc’s all in same stitch, on your last dc pull up a loop and pull out your hook, going back into your first dc, insert your hook from front-back, going under the first 2loops of first stitch and into the dropped loop of last stitch, pull through and ch1 to close.

FPDC– to begin yo, instead of entering your in the stitch we will going around the post of the dc from previous stitch of previous row going front to back going , yo, pull up a loop, now we will complete the dc, yo, pull through first 2loops, yo, pull through last 2loops, completed.

BPDC– to begin you will be going in opposite direction of the FPDC, yo, insert your hook behind the dc of previous row going over the post back to front, yo, pull up a loop, yo, now we will complete the dc, pull through first 2loops, yo, pull through last 2loops, completed.

Now let’s get into this.

Start by ch4 and SS to first ch to join.

R1: ch3, 4dc, ch2, 5dc all in the ring. Turn.

R2: ch3, 2dc in same stitch, dc in each stitch up to ch2 space, (2dc ch2 2dc in the corner), dc in each stitch until one stitch remains, 3dc in stitch, turn.
R3: repeat r2.
R4: ch3, *sk next stitch, dc in next, dc back into sk stitch* repeat up until the corner,(2dc ch2 2dc) in the corner, *sk next stitch, dc in next stitch, dc back into sk stitch* repeat until one stitch remains, dc in remaining stitch. Turn.
R5: ch3, 2dc in same stitch, dc in each stitch until 2dc remain, fpdc around last 2dc, (2dc ch2 2dc in the corner), fpdc around next 2dc, dc in each stitch until one stitch remains, 3dc in last stitch. Turn.
R6: ch3, 2dc in same stitch, dc in each stitch until four stitches remain, bpdc around 2fpdc from previous row, dc in last 2dc, (2dc ch2 2dc in corner), dc in next 2dc, bpdc around 2fpdc from previous row, dc in each stitch until one remains, 3dc in last stitch. Turn.
R7: ch3, 2dc in same stitch, dc in each stitch until 6 stitches remain, fpdc around all 6 stitches, (2dc ch2 2dc all in the corner), fpdc around next 6stitches, dc in each until one stitch remains, 3dc in last stitch. Turn.
Repeat r4-7, until you have the desired length of your shawl. You will end on r4 and turn.

Border Time

R1: ch1, sc in same stitch, ch6, *sk 4stitches, sc in next 2stitches, ch6* repeat up until corner, (2sc ch2 2sc in the corner), *ch6, sk 4stitches, sc in next 2stitches* repeat until one stitch remains, sc in last stitch. Turn.
R2-3: ch1, sc in same stitch, ch6, *sk over ch6 from previous row, sc in next 2stitches, ch6* repeat until 2stitches remain, sc in next 2stitches, (sk the 2sc, ch4 sk the 2sc in the corner), sc in next 2 stitches, *ch6, sk over ch6 from previous row, sc in next 2stitches* repeat until one stitch remains, sc in last stitch. Turn.
R4: ch3, dc in same stitch, ch4, *sc into the two middle dc from previous row before beginning the border and over the three ch6, ch4, dc in the 2sc from previous row, ch4* repeat up to the corner, (popcorn stitch ch2 popcorn stitch in the corner) ch4, *dc in the 2sc from previous row, ch4, sc in the the two dc from last row before the border and over the three ch6 from previous rows, ch4* repeat until one stitch remains, 2dc in last stitch. FO and weave in all ends.
