Yarn …

This Design I wanted to pick a yarn that brought on the warmth and would keep you cozy, by providing that much needed comfy. That also a littler more heavier than a DK (3) Weight, Worsted (4) Weight Acrylic was my choice, making a good choice. For this, I used Red Heart Yarn Super Saver in Grey Heather and White, more geared for the neutral take on colors (all colors are a total wonderful option). You can also use any type of worsted (4) weight, as it’s in the same category. Furls Crochet Wander Yarn, is perfect option as well for this pattern, it packs the same punch as well to give warmth, cozy and comfy snuggles

Hall-O-Ween Night Pumpkin — Crochet Pattern

Happy Saturday Y’all. I got another pumpkin pattern for y’all. Time to keep growing your pumpkin patch.

It’s quick and easy to work up. I literally timed myself while making this one, you will have it worked up from start to finish, in 45 minutes. This is a stash buster or even a scrap yarn project, trying to use up all the yarn — you’ll want to make this one hands down.

Yea I got a question for y’all, when you do stop making pumpkins? Do you only make them from September-October or do you make them all year long? I can honestly tell you, I might not stop. But, I do have a few more I need to finish writing up and designing as well. So, yeah, I just might be making pumpkins the rest of the year, I think that will be ok.

THIS POST DOES CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS.

You can’t use up CREATIVITY. The more you USE, the more you HAVE.

Design

Have you ever wondered what holding 2 strands of yarn can create? This pumpkin uses double strands. It creates a bulky piece, you will fall in love. This pumpkin is constructed with using half double crochet and using a yarn under technique and using single crochet with a yarn under technique for the seam. With your double strands held together, not one will come out the same with your color scheme. You will make a rectangle, taking the 2 ends together to seam them and to form a tube. To bring more into a pumpkin shape you will cinch bottom closed first, turning inside out so your seam will be placed on the inside, stuff it and cinch your top closed. Now, comes the best part, you get shape it to form it into a pumpkin, by wrapping your yarn around 4-6 times pulling them tight to create the shape you want. You will enjoy this pumpkin.

Yarn

I want to say thank you to Furls Crochet, for sending me their Wander Yarn for this design. They sent me Thatch and Obsidian, to design this pumpkin. This yarn is 100% acrylic based yarn in worsted weight, category 4. I am telling y’all you have to try this yarn and get yourself some. It’s super soft to the touch, making you not wanting to leave your hands. It slides off your hook like butter. It also has a very nice sheen look to it as well. But, the best feature I love about this yarn and for this design, is the SQUISH factor it beholds. One thing I want to say, it does snag with your top of your hook, so really pay attention to that. You can use my Back End Hook Pull Tutorial, to help not snag your yarn. In closing, this yarn is a new love of mine. It’s affordable $5 a skein, buy 5 or more you get a Free Tote with your yarn. Also, it comes in 24 amazing color options. Don’t forget this as well, Furls Crochet, even offers 14 Palette Packs to choose from.

Hook

Again, I want to thank Furls Crochet for sending me Streamline Galaxy Solar Flare Swirl I/9 (5.5mm), for this design. The Swirl Hooks are my favorite completely. They are medium lightweight, making you soar through your projects in no time. They don’t cramp my hands, leaving me crocheting for hours. They are also my big Eye Candy, by the blending of colors, creating the Swirl. They came in 11 different color options and in 10 different sizes (G+-P). You will fall in love, like I have over the years. I have using Furls Crochet Swirl Hooks since 2017 and I won’t stop.

This is what you should end up after seaming your pumpkin. Click Image to Shop Furls Crochet Hook and Yarn.

Cinching Bottom Closed

Thread your yarn onto your needle, weave in and out of the top of each row, finishing back into where you started, unthread your needle and pull on your tail tight to bring it together. Secure by tying a few knots. You don’t need to weave in your ends, just leave on the inside of your pumpkin

Shaping your Pumpkin

With holding 2 strands together cut about 30-32” long tail

To finish, your needle is still out the top, simply poke needle back through the top out through the bottom.

Tie a few knots to secure. Unthread needle.

Weave in your ends. Now, you can poke a stick or cinnamon stick in the top. You can also glue the stick or cinnamon stick to the top of your pumpkin, to keep it in place.

Quick Mountain Star Coasters

My latest design — Mountain Star Coasters, are a free pattern here on the blog.

Read through what inspired this design, keep scrolling down for the free pattern or you can simply purchase the inexpensive printable PDF here.

Mountain Star Coaster under my favorite mug.

“Embrace your placement. We can’t always chose what season of life we’re in, but we can determine what we do while we’re there.”

Unknown

—Inspiration—

This design came to me, when I was asked by @creativesundayapp if i would like to design something for them. They thought it would be really cool if i did a coaster, something people could use around the house, like a quick little cute project. But, they didn’t limit me to just make a coaster — it could have been anything.

I took that offer with a grace of God. Mind was racing around each bend, trying to grasp that perfect little stone to make and capture me. Thinking of something a little more sturdy, that would hold up for any occasion and not loose it’s shape over time.

Got my little hands busy, like working bees making their delicious honey. I wanted to capture, what I love the most – the outdoors of course. The design was under construction.

Using more of simple based stitches, so that it will be minutes rather than hours, to have your coasters ready for any adventure they will travel through. The center circle base is made with single crochets worked in a spiral (no joining) to create the lush valleys based below the high peaks. The border around the base is made with double crochets, picot stitches and chain2’s, made into a Star look, creating the high peaks towering into the clouds.

LoveCrafts

—The Yarn—

I got my mind thinking of the possibilities colors, weight and type. Should I use lightweight, worsted, bulky and even super bulky yarn.

I crossed the lightweight and super bulky of the list, that left me with worsted #4 and bulky #5. I know that i wanted to use 2 strands of one type, just to create a different color texture. I got to thinking, if i used 2 strands of bulky, that would make it more bulkier and take away from the vision.

Once, I grabbed 2 strands of worsted weight #4 yarn, it just felt right. It’s just like using bulky #5 yarn, but you get to choose different color combinations, by showing off your personality through your making process. But, you can also use Bulky #5 yarn as well with this pattern.

I chose to use Red Heart Yarn Super Saver in black and white (worsted weight 4). I went for a neutral feel to stay in the roots of this design and to showcase my personality as a person, so you can have feel more about me.

Feel free to shop here and browse through their selection to find your yarn, for your new project. They have many to chose from.

Box Stitch Modification, Free Stitch Tutorial

Comparison kills creativity. There is room for you. Nobody can do it with your voice, with your experience, with your insight. — Karen Walrond

Rising Hope Beanie with L Hook and yarn Pompom

When I began this technique for this design, in my head I didn’t know what stitch I was making, it just came out this way. That envision just poured out and it was flowing in a way that I couldn’t stop it. These are little things that bring a smile to my face and make me want to keep designing.

The traditional box stitch is worked in 5 double crochet’s in each stitch and going over the chain from previous row. Your next row is worked as follows: single crochet in the first stitch, ch3 skip 3 stitches, single crochet in the last stitch, repeat across.

The traditional box stitch is a beautiful stitch to create. It adds a simple and elegant texture to your makes. The traditional and my modification box stitch are great for:

  • Blankets
  • Beanies
  • Totes
  • Garments of any kind

Today, I will be showing you how to do this modification using my Rising Hope Beanie.

The Rising Hope Beanie takes the box stitch a little further with a modification to it. I hope you will enjoy making this modification for your new beanie.

Rising Hope Beanie with K Hook and Faux Fur Pompom

When doing your box stitch modification, you notice that your Double Crochets are worked in the stitches and around the ch3 in row 3. But, in row 5 and up your double crochets are worked only in the stitches at the beginning of the row and end of the row, in the middle of the row’s the double crochets are worked in the ch3 space.

When doing your ExSc, make sure you pull up a little to give it height and look extended.

Yarn Needed

The yarn I used for this tutorial: worsted weight #4 with a Main Color and Contrasting Color. You may use any yarn in the same category as I used.

Hooks

The hooks I used to perform this tutorial: K (6.5mm) or L (8.00mm).

Other Materials Needed

  • Tapestry Needle (weaving in ends)
  • Scissors
  • Stitch Marker (optional)
  • Tape Measure

Abbreviations/Stitches Used

  • Ch: chain
  • Sc: single crochet
  • Dc: double crochet
  • Hdc: half double crochet
  • ExSC: extended single crochet
  • R: row
  • **: to be repeated
Rising Hope Beanie w/ K hook and faux fur pompom

Now Let’s Begin…

Starting with Main Color.

After you have completed your brim of choice, either in sc or hdc, you can begin r1.

The stitch count for this stitch works best in multiples of 4, that why if you check out my pattern Rising Hope Beanie you will notice my stitch of 60.

R1: ch1, sc evenly across the top of the brim. Change to secondary color. Slip stitch to first stitch to join.

R2: ch1, sc in the first stitch, ch3, skip 3stitches, *sc in the next stitch, ch3, skip 3stitches*, sc in the last stitch. Change to primary color and slip stitch to the first stitch to join.

R3: ch2, sk first stitch, dc in the next 3stitches and around the ch3 from previous row, *sk the sc from previous row, dc in the next 3stitches and around the ch3 from previous row,* sk the 2nd to last sc, dc in the last 3stitches and around the ch3 from previous row, sk last sc, change to second color, slip stitch to first stitch to join.

R4: ch1, *ExSc in sk stitch from previous row, sk next 3stitches, ch3,* ExSc in the last stitch from previous row, change to primary color, slip stitch to first to join.

R5: ch2, skip 1st stitch, dc in the next 3stitches and around the ch3 from the previous row, *skip next sc from the previous row, place 3DC’S IN THE CH3 SPACE*, skip the 2nd to last sc, dc in the next 3stitches and around the ch3 from the previous row, skip last the sc. Change to secondary color and slip stitch to the first stitch to join.

You will continue this method in the same manner until you have desired rows.

Through R7 with L Hook
Through R17 with K Hook

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and look at this new way to do the box stitch.

Your support and love are very appreciative.

❤️❤️❤️

Much Love, MM_Crochet17

Foxy Loxy Pompom, Free Crochet Pattern, MM_Crochet17

Here lately, I have been seeing the love with this fur yarn from Lion Brand Yarn and beauty behind it. My heart melted and screamed in joy. Possibilities and designs started pouring in my head, with what I could make with this yarn. Just only one stuck, a full on crocheted PomPom to add to so many projects or making a fur ornament for decoration. Keep reading for the free pattern.

©️2020 MM_Crochet17
Foxy Loxy Pompom in Baked Alaskan

When, I was trying to figure out how to do a pompom with this yarn, I came by Left In Knots fur crocheted PomPom, but I just couldn’t get it to work out for the life of me. It was like my brain was out of order at this time. Then, recently shortly after, I noticed that Crazy4crochetmama had come up with a pompom out of Red Heart Yarns Hygge, such a beautiful crocheted PomPom (that I need to try out, as well), which both were my inspiration for this pompom. Plus, even Bhooked inspired these with her podcast explaining on how to use this yarn. Which got me to thinking, I want to create something special to be used with this yarn.

Chinchilla, Blonde Elk and Baked Alaskan Foxy Loxy Pompom

I love faux fur, as it is super soft and has a very luxurious touch to it, that had me dreaming to make a pompom that would resemble the same effect to it. This design just kept dancing inside the front of my brain, letting nothing else come forth until I produce this item.

Then, one night sitting on the couch, I grabbed this beautiful yarn out of stash and my big Boye size N/19 (10.00mm) Hook, started creating this design, the best idea I had, from the depths of my creativeness.

Chinchilla Faux Fur Yarn

This project resembles a squared piece of fur fabric. As it is the same soft touch, that all you want to do is keep petting it, like you would your dog. After, you have finished getting to your last measurement, FO and you don’t have to weave in your ends, then you begin cinching it up like you would a faux fur fabric and then stuff her up to get the same roundness as all those faux fur pompom’s on the market, but the greatest touch and best secret, is that is all crocheted up. That is the goal that I was looking for, once I started creating this joy. Plus, this yarn will not disappoint you in anyway, it will have you wanting more.

Gauge

Not a crucial step, as I use measurements for this type of pattern.

Measurements

6.5″x6.5″ for the type of square you making for your Pompom.

Materials

Hook: Boye N/19 (10.00mm)

Yarn: Lion Brand Yarn Go For Faux

Tape Measure

Scissors

Stitch Marker (optional)

Polyfill (~handful or a little more to get shape desired)

Long piece of any color worsted weight yarn (for cinching)

Darning Needle for sewing up the sides

Additional Notes

This pattern is written in US terminology.

When using this yarn, I suggest you be in a well lit area to see your stitches, as it’s hard to see them or you will have to feel for them, as it’s in the category #6 super bulky.

This pattern is worked in rows, chaining 1 and turning, before starting next row.

Ch1’s don’t count a stitch.

You don’t need to weave in your ends, as you will stuff them inside your pompom, before cinching up.

After, you are finished cinching up, pull tight, tie several knots to keep in place, then take one of the two strands and add your needle, poke needle across from where you are and pull through, tie several more knots and you’re done.

You will also notice that you can’t deal which row you are, I suggest you grab your tape measure and measure. until you get to 6.5″ and then carry onto finishing up your pompom.

Abbreviations/Stitches Used

Ch: chain.

SC: single crochet.

R: row.

FO: fasten off.

ST: stitches.

H: hook.

Now, Let’s begin making your Pompom!!

To start, grab your N H and ch13.

R1: in the second ch from h sc, and sc in the next eleven ch’s. Ch1 and turn. (12st’s)

R2-12: sc in same st and next 11 st’s. Ch1 and turn. (12st’s)

Once your piece measures 6.5″ long and 6.5″ wide, FO and don’t weave in your ends, as they are easily to be stuffed inside your pompom when cinching.

Now, it’s time to be cinched up.

Grab a long piece of any color of your choice, of worsted weight yarn. Place your farming needle on your strand of yarn. Poke your yarn through the last stitch before FO’ing off, then continue around until you get to where you started, both tails should be facing on the same side. Un-string your needle and then begin pulling tight, before you close the pompom all the way closed, take your filling and stuff your pompom, continue to stuff until you have your desired look. Once, you’re done stuffing, pull on your two strings to have a tight hole, then begin tying several knots to secure it. Then begin stringing one of the two strands with your needle, then poke your needle across or diagonally from your knots, pull strand through, release needle from strand and tie several knots to secure. Cut your strings to desired length and now you can attach to your next project or tie knots to leave as an ornament for decorating for the seasons.
